Roozbeh Jajari and his students invented a device that can translate 40 different American Sign Language words into English on a smart phone. He hopes for the device to be able to translate all different forms of sign language into words. He would like the device to become smaller and more accurate before it hits the market.

-Where can you buy it?

This device is not available to the market just yet

-How much does it cost?

    No price point yet

-Will the idea stick around?

I think that this idea is a great idea. I feel that it will continue to be improved overtime and will eventually come to the market. If if comes to market, I feel that this invention will have a significant impact within communication.

Improvements that need to be made

  • Doesn't work for people with ALS

  • Not available to the public (hoping for production in the near future)

  • Takes around 30 minutes for the machine to be functional (needs to get used to your muscles)

  • Translates only American Sign Lauguage into only English

  • Not used for complete sentences yet

  • Hopes to get this technology into an Apple Watch

Cool Facts

  • It is for anyone who uses American Sign Lauguage

  • No Competition            (other people's devices use cameras, but not sensors)

  • 96% accuracy
